Fire door inspections for Edinburgh buildings
Edinburgh's Old Town and New Town are full of listed tenements, many used as short-term lets, which need interlinked alarms that meet Scottish requirements without harming historic interiors.
Fire doors hold back fire and smoke so people can escape and firefighters can work. A door with a large gap, a missing seal or a broken self-closer can fail in minutes.
In England, the Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 require the Responsible Person in buildings with storeys above 11 metres to check communal fire doors at least every three months and to use best endeavours to check flat entrance doors at least once a year. We carry out these checks and give you a report you can rely on.
The rules that apply in Edinburgh
In Scotland, fire safety in non-domestic premises is governed by the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations 2006, and enforced by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. Scotland has its own building standards system and its own approach to cladding risk.
